We are on a mission to build a kickass community in Brooklyn where people can chill out, connect with others and feel infused with a sense of wonder and possibility after a playful, sweaty hot yoga practice.

What is hot power yoga?

Hot Power Yoga is about being your most empowered self on and off the mat. This strong vinyasa practice is done in a room heated to 95 degrees with 40% humidity. We emphasize the flow of breath while creating a balance of strength and freedom in each pose. This practice is open to every BODY, and poses can be modified to create your own individual experience. It’s the most amazing and empowering hot power yoga Brooklyn has to offer.

the story

founder/co-owner Tamara Behar

In 2009 at a Level 2 Teacher Training in Montana, my teacher, Baron Baptiste asked us to close our eyes and imagine ourselves 5 years from now. I said to myself:

“I’m going to own a hot power yoga studio in Brooklyn.”

In 2013, after hitting a bottom with my yoga career, I got the nerve to tell everyone I knew that I was opening up a yoga studio without any idea how to find the money to do it. One day I ran into a student at the yoga studio I was teaching at. I told her what I was up to and she told me that she was a Commercial Real Estate Broker and could help me find a space.

Against everyone’s advice, I started looking at spaces and hired an Architect to help make sure the spaces I was looking at were viable for a hot power yoga studio.

Most mornings I would wake up with a pit in my stomach second guessing myself and wondering if I was crazy to go after my dream. I had to dig deep within myself to keep going. I kept manifesting my vision and took 3 to 5 actions every day to make my dream come true. My mantra was and still is Patience. Trust. Confidence. Non-Attachment.

After looking at numerous spaces and meeting with various investors, nothing worked out. For some reason, I stayed very relaxed and calm. In May of 2014, my Real Estate Agent called me and said she found a smaller space 2 blocks from my home in a great location. We met at the space with my Architect and he said it was a solid space for a yoga studio.

Two weeks later, my Real Estate Agent called me to say that she had a Friend who might be interested in investing and asked me to send her my Business Plan. The investor wrote me to say he was interested and from the moment I saw his first email to me, my intuition said this is it. We met at the space with my Real Estate Agent and my Architect. We proceeded to meet for 3 hours after that and discussed the space and my vision for the studio.

My mantra was and still is Patience. Trust. Confidence. Non-Attachment.

On June 16, he called me and he offered to be the sole investor in the studio! We signed our Lease on October 9, 2014 and the rest is history. I crushed my dream and am ready to bring it on and create community in a big way.
